Sustainable living: Aquaponics
Forgive me for going off the subject of solar here but this is just too good not to share. Aquaponics is a closed loop, sustainable system in which one can raise fish whose waste feeds a system of vegetables/greens. They in turn filter the water clean which is fed back to the fish. All you need is some supplemental fish food (but they do get many of their nutrients from the plants themselves).
There are some reports that you can grow a million pounds of food on just three acres. Imagine that — no world hunger! There are even charities that set up aquaponics systems in remote, poor locations so that the locals can benefit with minimal cost and effort. This is what green innovation is all about — creating ‘loops’ that don’t harm the earth or our ecosystem.
Here’s a video for more information.
